BioSig: A Bioinformatic System for Studying the Mechanism of Intra-Cell Signaling
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mapping inter-cell signaling pathways requires an integrated view of experimental and informatic protocols. BioSig provides the foundation of cataloging inter-cell responses as a function of particular conditioning, treatment, staining, etc. for either invivo or invitro experiments. This paper outlines the system architecture, a functional data model for representing experimental protocols, algorithms for image analysis, and the required statistical analysis. The architecture provides remote shared operation of an inverted optical microscope, and couples instrument operation with images acquisition and annotation. The information is stored in an object-oriented database. The algorithms extract structural information such as morphology and organization, and map it to functional information such as inter-cellular responses. An example of usage of this system is included.

BioSig: An Imaging Bioinformatic System for Studying Phenomic
F unctional genomics—understanding how a genome is expressed to produce myriad cell phenotypes—presents the core challenge of the postgenomic era. Using genomic information to understand the biology of complex organisms requires comprehensive knowledge of the dynamics of phenotype generation and maintenance. A phenotype results from selective expression of the genome, creating a history of the ...
متن کاملThe Jak-Stat Signaling Pathway of Interferons System: Snapshots
Interferons (IFNs) are a family of small regulatory glycoproteins that play a central role in the defense against viral infections. Although IFNs have been initially discovered as antiviral factors, today they are known as an integral part of the cytokine network that affect a wide range of biological processes. IFNs exert their pleiotropic effects through their multisubunit cell surface recept...

Introduction: Ultra low dose (ULD) morphine induces hyperalgesia which is mediated by excitatory Gscoupled opioid receptors. This study was designed to investigate the development of tolerance to hyperalgesic effect of morphine. Also we attempt to seek possible similarity, in view of Gs proteins, between hyperalgesic effect of ULD and hyperalgesic effect after tolerance to HD. Method: Male ...

The immune system of mammalian organisms undergoes alterations that may account for an increased susceptibility to certain infections, autoimmune diseases, or malignancies. Well characterized are age related defect in T cell functions and cell mediated immunity. Although it is well established that the functional properties of T cells decrease with age, its biochemical and molecular nature is...
